Curriculum
The Pillar Academy for Business and Finance utilizes a
personalized approach to learning. This means that students
will be working at their own level of understanding,
regardless of their age or grade. Based on the student's
initial evaluation, our teachers create a personalized
academic program for each student. This program is designed
to help strengthen weak areas while allowing the student to
earn the credits needed to graduate and gain the skills
necessary to be successful in life.
Because each student has different skills, the Academy does
not utilize a traditional instructional approach where everyone is
learning the same lesson. Each student is placed at a
level where they can learn and are encouraged to take
responsibility for learning. Students do not need to wait on
the class if they have already learned the information.
Conversely, students can take more time to learn concepts
that seem more difficult. Students attending the Academy are
encouraged to take charge of their education by working to
the best of their ability.
The Academy’s instructional setting blends both traditional
and non-traditional classroom environments. The more traditional
environment is utilized particularly in the areas of
business and finance instruction for group instruction and
projects. The non-traditional instructional environment occurs
when students are placed on a customized Individualized Learning Plan
and continue to progress at their own pace – accelerated or
basic core concepts.
